dance

I have been dancing since I was 5, and have learnt, taught and performed on 4 continents focusing on Afrikan and diaspora Afrikan dances and cultures. In my artistic exploration, dance classes, facilitation and performances, I draw from a wide repertoire including dance from Ghana (Ga and Ewe), Brazil (Afro-brazilian/Candomble dances), Haiti (Vodu dances), South Africa (gumboot), Reunion (Maloya) and Kenya (various).

At the core of my practice is reconnecting movement with its historical and cultural wisdom and expressions. That is, demonstrating the intelligence coded within the movement practices of diverse Afrikan peoples, and bringing these to the present to hold space for healing, creativity and community, and open new and critical ways of being all while having fun.

My guiding principles are to reconnect our selves, each other, the Earth, and our unembodied spirit helpers through movement, embodiment and Afrikan ways of being, knowing and doing.
