African traditions from West to East and the African diaspora revere female deities who embody unique traits. These Oriṣas, Lwas, Wintis or deities as they are variously known represent various aspects and possibilities of feminine being, and of nature (wind, river water, ocean, earth, etc.)
In this 15 week series, we explore the energies and movements of 7 African goddesses – Nana, Mambo Ayizan, Ayida Wedo, Ezili Freda, Ọ̀ṣun, Yemọja and Ọya – and reflect on how we embody these ourselves.
Through dance, song, reflective practices and improvisation we come to know and more fully inhabit our own divine feminine.*
*open to all genders.
STRUCTURE
We explore each goddess over a period of 2 weeks to more deeply work with their energy. This exploration can be intense hence the series runs over 15 weeks with a week’s break after every 4 sessions.
Check the events page to find out where the African Goddesses Series is being offered next, or contact me to request all or part of the series for your group, organisation or school.
COST
The African Goddesses Dance Series is offered on a sliding scale cost basis, and a 4 part payment plan of 4 sessions at a time is available. I encourage you to read my full thoughts on the sliding scale and accessible and equitable value exchange systems available here.
